ODE TO FLOW

In a puddle of shame
her listless body lies
damp, dark, and cold–
her core and his words.
Humiliation freezing her eyes
mountainside icicles seemingly empathize
parted lips, breathless lungs
feeling her face, nose numb.
Walls closing – where is light?
the river’s backhanded offering
valley screams, her pleas echoing –
“Be not dependent on thee!”
Searching in desolation, she coughs
mind scanning, earth spinning
too weak for tears
fear death or fear living?
Full chest rising – dive!
bubbling up, soul freeing
green eyes and blue sky, humbled
Rayleigh scattering, honoring flow.
